Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about holistic dental care
About Holistic Dentistry
Holistic dentistry, also called biological or integrative dentistry, is an approach that considers the impact of dental health on the entire body. We use biocompatible materials, minimize exposure to toxins, and focus on treating root causes rather than just symptoms. Our goal is to support your overall health while providing excellent dental care.
While traditional dentistry focuses primarily on treating dental problems, holistic dentistry takes a whole-body approach. We consider how dental treatments affect your overall health, use only biocompatible materials, avoid mercury and other potentially harmful substances, and emphasize prevention and natural healing. We also spend more time educating patients about the oral-systemic connection.
Yes, we accept most major dental insurance plans. However, because some of our holistic treatments may not be covered by traditional insurance, we also offer flexible payment options. Our team will help you understand your coverage and maximize your benefits. We can also provide detailed invoices for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Your first visit will be comprehensive. We'll review your complete medical and dental history, discuss your health goals, and perform a thorough examination including assessment of your existing dental work, airway, bite, and gum health. We use digital X-rays with minimal radiation. After the exam, we'll create a personalized treatment plan and take time to answer all your questions.
Safe Amalgam Removal
Mercury amalgam fillings continuously release small amounts of mercury vapor, which can be absorbed by the body. While the dental industry considers them safe, many patients and healthcare providers are concerned about cumulative exposure over time. Mercury is a known neurotoxin, and we believe in offering patients the option to remove these fillings safely and replace them with biocompatible alternatives.
SMART stands for Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique. It's a rigorous protocol developed by the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) to minimize mercury exposure during filling removal. It includes rubber dam isolation, high-volume suction, protective barriers, room air filtration, and more. Our dentists are SMART-certified and follow this protocol for every amalgam removal.
We use biocompatible composite resins and ceramics to replace amalgam fillings. These materials are BPA-free, contain no metals, and are designed to work harmoniously with your body. For larger restorations, we may recommend ceramic inlays, onlays, or crowns. We can discuss which option is best for your specific situation during your consultation.
Our Services
Ozone therapy uses medical-grade ozone (O3) to naturally kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi without harming healthy tissue. In dentistry, we use it to treat early cavities without drilling, support gum disease treatment, disinfect during root canals, and promote healing after procedures. It's a gentle, natural alternative that can often reduce the need for more invasive treatments.
We understand dental anxiety and offer several options to help you feel comfortable. We create a calming environment and take a gentle approach. For patients who need additional support, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and can discuss oral sedation options. Our team is trained to work with anxious patients and will never rush or pressure you.
Yes! Dr. Emma Abramyan offers dental sleep medicine solutions through her Sleep Apnea Clinic. We offer custom oral appliances as an alternative to CPAP therapy. These devices gently position the jaw to keep the airway open during sleep. We work with sleep physicians to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. Many patients find oral appliances more comfortable and easier to use than CPAP.
We exclusively use biocompatible, metal-free materials. For fillings, we use BPA-free composite resins. For crowns and larger restorations, we use high-quality ceramics and zirconia. These materials are durable, look natural, and don't contain metals or other potentially harmful substances. We can also offer biocompatibility testing if you have sensitivities.
